Middleport Primary Care Centre, New Doctor's Surgery and Pharmacy

We were awarded this illustrious contract following a competitive Design & Build Single Stafe Tender. The Primary Care Centre was the first of many projects in the regeneration of the Middleport area of Stoke-On-Trent. The new facility provides a doctor's suregy with associated consulting rooms, minor surgery facilities, offices and a pharmacy constructed to BREEAM Excellent.

The building is of steel framed construction upon concrete pad and strip foundations forming one and two storey sections incorporating pre-cast concrete staircases. The first floor is reinforced concrete on profiled steel permanent formwork and tensile reinforcement decking. The external walls are constructed from traditional cavity blockwork inner skin, facing brickwork and rendered blockwork external skin with powder coated aluminium doors and windows. Internal partition walls are generally insulated metal stud partitions with plasterboard finishes. The Internal Finishes included demountable partitioning systems, suspended and plasterboard ceilings, kitchen installations, toilets and ancillary accommodation, mechanical and electrical services all completed to the latest healthcare technical guidance.

The external works included all necessary service installations and connections, retaining walls, roadways, pavements, car parking, foul and surface water drainage and landscaping works.

Under the requirements of the contract the project was registered on the Considerate Constructors Scheme with scoring having the potential for an award. The project was built within a very confined site boundary with adjacent roads being busy during peak hours in which special delivery times were instigated.
