Big Yellow Self Storage High Wycombe, Storage Facility
Following on from the successful completion of the Big Yellow Self Storage Building in Birmingham, the Client negotiated and awarded A & H Construction their project in High Wycombe. The construction of the building involved the erection of a steel portal framework on concrete pad foundations bearing on CFA-piled ground.
The external façade consisted of a variety of finishes; brick cavity walls, composite panel cladding, horizontal and vertical built up insulated cladding, vertical timber weatherboarding, aluminium framed curtain walling, glazed screens and doors, aluminium smoke vents and steel doors. The roof finish is a built up insulated aluminium standing seam system with a 500 sqm green roof over the south facing side.
Security to the completed development is provided by means of railings 2.8m high with brick piers and dwarf walls to the frontage, including swing gates for pedestrians and a sliding gate forming access to the car park. A 2.4m high black weldmesh security fence provides security to the remaining boundaries affording additional safety for the riverside boundary.
External works included all necessary mechanical and electrical installations, service connections, roadways, pavements, car parking, foul and surface water drainage and landscaping works. The yard is designed for lorry turning and includes a designated safe pedestrian route for the building.
Internally the shell works involved the installation of all basic mechanical and electrical services and the erection of partitions to form two staircases and a lift shaft enclosure which were constructed of metal studwork and blockwork walls.
The construction site was logistically challenging with a restricted entrance and limited area for storage. With these challenges in mind materials were delivered ‘just in time’ and delivery schedules adhered to ensuring no two deliveries occurred at the same time.
