Old Swinford Hospital School Sports Hall Extension, Sports Hall Extension, Alterations & Multi Use Games Area (MUGA)

Extensive alterations and the construction of a three-storey extension Sports Hall to provide a new Reception area and an ‘All Weather’ MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) with external floodlighting, cricket nets and practice area.

The works involved the initial demolition of the old Reception and construction of in-situ concrete retaining walls allowing for an extension to the building and providing a new staircase and lift enabling access between the various floors for not only the able bodied but also for the disabled athletes. 

Major alterations were carried out within the existing building, on the lower ground floor, the formation of a Wet Changing Room and Gymnasium and to the ground floor the addition of a disabled toilet.  More minor alterations were also carried out forming a new Reception area and Meeting Rooms.  We also successfully carried out extensive external works including a new ‘Multi Use Games Area’ on land immediately to the east of the existing Sports Hall, external paving, associated service connections and landscaping. 

The work was carried out during normal school term-time, consequently we were in close contact with the School to complete the works whilst examinations were carried out within the adjoining Sports Hall.
