A&H Construction successfully won this project following a competitive Design & Build Single Stage Tender.  The project consisted of the construction of a new Aldi Retail Store (1,544 square metres) with associated Car Park and external works at Earls Way in Halesowen.

The works comprised of the following:-

Removal/breaking out of the existing foundations and concrete slab.  Stabilisation of the river bank to the north side parallel to the river Stour.  201Continuous Flight Auger Piles to the building foundations.  Erection of a single storey steel-framed building on reinforced concrete pile caps and ground beam foundations.  Power floated reinforced concrete ground floor slab bearing upon the piles.  Insulation cavity block external walls incorporating powder coated aluminium double glazed curtain walling, windows and doors with external render.

Profiled steel built-up insulated roofing system incorporating rooflights, mansafe fall prevention system, green roof area and traditional rainwater gutter and down-pipe system.  Powder coated steel overhead shutter.  Internal blockwork dividing back of house from main shopping area.  External works, including all necessary mechanical and electrical installation, service connections, roadways, pavements, car parking, foul and surface water drainage and landscaping works.

Located upon a busy dual carriageway meant we paid particular attention during the pre-construction stage to ensure that construction vehicles did not cause a nuisance to the existing road users.  By establishing a pull-in area for construction traffic, adjacent to the site entrance, meant that vehicles/deliveries could be processed prior to the entering of the site and out of the way of the dual carriageway.  We scheduled deliveries 24 hours in advance ensuring no two deliveries occurred at the same time.
